The city offers an endless visual array of infrastructure. Due to its density and variety it becomes an almost unintelligible landscape, the individual parts consumed by the whole. However, if close attention is paid to these parts, a new visual language appears.

Why can’t the standpipe also become a lamp, illuminating the dark sidewalk for the city dweller? And if so, is it not more sustainable to modify existing infrastructure, than it is to introduce new forms?
